Springfield's Fantastic Caverns is known as America's Only Ride-Through Cave and is definitely something you don't want to miss if you're traveling to the city or looking for an interesting afternoon with the family. When he was exploring his property, from the animals to the farm fencing, a farmer discovered the caves in 1862. In fact, it was actually his dog that found it first when he was seen crawling through the entrance. Now it is still a family-owned business and is full of charm and history.
The cave was not fully explored until five years later with twelve women responded to an ad looking for people willing to venture inside. If you're visiting from Plano real estate to see the site or going through with your children you will still find their names on the wall inside. You can travel through the cave in jeep-drawn trams and it almost feels like you're going into a whole new world. The stillness and wonder of being in this place will take you away from driving along the Kingsway or going to work every day in a bustling city center.
Fantastic Caverns sits below the Ozarks hills and is just north of the city of Springfield. You'll likely enjoy the trip out to this site almost as much as the attraction itself. When you're going from Mississauga homes to the best spots in that city you will get there by going through city traffic and little scenery. You're more likely to see farmland and rolling hills on the way to Fantastic Caverns.
This site has become an important learning experience for many students throughout the area. Children in grades one to eight can go through a 90-minute tour called CSI: Fantastic Caverns. This stands for Cave Science Investigators and is labeled as an underground classroom. This will take them through the science of the site as well as entertaining them with the story of a crime scene. There is also a Summer Discovery Program that could be perfect for scout groups and summer camps alike.
If you want to see the best of Springfield while visiting the area or just need to get out of the house with organic diapers and all of the kids in tow than you should visit this attraction any time throughout the year. Fantastic Caverns is open every day other than major holidays from 8:00am until dusk. Tours leave every 20-30 minutes. There are even season passes available.
