It's not difficult to get inspired in this world. There are millions of sites to see and things to do. You could travel away from working on a farm piercing ear tags to explore on African safari or could see everything that the Amazon Rainforest has to offer. But sometimes you can't get that far from home when you're looking for an interesting place to spend an afternoon. If you're in the Springfield area than that's when you should head to the Discovery Centre.
This site started as a dream of a dedicated group in 1991. They were able to raise the money to renovate the original facilities between 1992 and 1998 and concurrently were running a series of workshops and events. This has always been a place where people can come with their kids on a day of from working with preform bands or in a law office to learn about all kinds of things that are interesting to a wide range of ages. The Discovery Centre opened its doors in January of 1998 with a few exhibits and a programming area.
In 2006, there was a major renovation done on the facility that allowed it to double in size and become the first LEED certified green complexes in all of Southwest Missouri. The number of programs and classes that the Discovery Centre is able to offer has also increased. If you're interested in the mechanics of steel coil strapping systems or have a kid that's wild about animals than you're sure to find the right class for your needs. There is also 50,000 square feet of interactive exhibit space for those that just want to walk around on their own and explore.
If you're visiting the Springfield area from a Toronto condo than this is definitely a site that you don't want to miss. You might also want to check it out a few times a year if you're from Missouri. There are always some traveling exhibits on display to provide something new. Admission if free for members, nine dollars for adults and seven dollars for children between the ages of three and fifteen. They are closed on Mondays and open throughout the year for classes and individuals. If you're in the area as part of a fitness Toronto team for a conference or visiting family than you might also want to check out what events are happening during your stay.
